Established by treaty in 1903, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay is the oldest U.S. military base outside the continental U.S. The Naval Hospital at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay has been in operation since September 1956.
When the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Southeast decided to restore the 120,000-square foot Naval Hospital’s building systems, Fisher Engineering was retained by the design/build architect, Bullock Tice Associates, to perform performance-based fire protection system design services and life safety analysis. Specifically, FEI performed a fire hydrant flow test; designed a new, automatic wet pipe sprinkler system throughout the entire building; provided a new, intelligent, analogue-addressable fire alarm and mass notification system; and performed a building code analysis.
The hospital provides 24-hour care and remained operational during all phases of the work.
