When Charleston, South Carolina’s thriving tourist industry sparked demand for luxury lodging, Library Associates, LLC, responded with plans to build a full-service, 185-room luxury hotel at the former Charleston County library site. The eight-story, 105-foot-tall structure will include an underground parking deck with double-stacked vehicles, a ballroom on the first floor, and a pool, bar, and private event space on the rooftop terrace. On the ground level, four retail spaces will face King Street in Charleston’s historic Marion Square.
Lindsay Pope Brayfield Clifford & Associates, Inc. is providing architecture and engineering services for this project and requested Fisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) to provide performance-based fire protection system design services as part of the design team. FEI’s specific services include fire hydrant flow testing; construction documents development, including specification and performance-based design; building and life safety code review of construction documents; shop submittal review; in-progress installation reviews; functional performance testing of fire pump system; and final site review.
The project broke ground in April 2015 and is expected to be completed in early 2017.
