As part of the rail portion of a new cryogenic gas processing plant that processes 50-75 million cubic feet of gas per day, Plains Gas Solutions constructed a new crude oil loading facility in Ross, North Dakota. The facility has the capacity to trans-load 8,500 barrels per day of natural gas liquids (NGLs) and 20,000 barrels per day of crude oil. In its second phase, the crude oil facility was expanded to provide unit train loading capability of up to 65,000 barrels per day. It is now served by a new, 16-mile, 10-inch crude oil pipeline extending from Plains’ Robinson Lake pipeline near Stanley, North Dakota to the company’s Ross complex.
Wilson & Co. retained Fisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) to provide fire protection engineering services. Specifically, FEI performed conceptual fire protection design; developed construction documents for the preaction foam-water fire sprinkler system for the facility’s loading platform, the fire pump house, and the preaction foam-water releasing system; and reviewed fire protection design submittals. The system was designed to require little intervention from the operations personnel and/or responding fire departments because the local, all-volunteer fire department had limited manpower.
