When completed, the PAB will encompass approximately 431,000 square feet of general office space, along with a domestic water pump area, a main distribution frame area, mechanical and electrical space, telecom rooms, restroom facilities, a front lobby, vertical and horizontal circulation space, a café/eatery, men’s and women’s locker rooms, break rooms, janitors’ closets, O&M closets, storage, mothers’ rooms, and future (flex) space.

As part of the project team, Fisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) is responsible for fire/life safety code compliance and the design of fire protection systems, including sprinklers, standpipe, and fire pump. FEI is undertaking these efforts concurrently with the five-phased renovation of the building. Construction improvements will bring the building into compliance with the 2012 International Building Code® and its incorporated sub-categories. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.

The project will be implemented in five phases, with construction spanning a three-year period.

Maricopa County ITR and Detention Center, Phoenix, Arizona

Maricopa County ITR and Detention Center

Arrington Watkins Architects was selected by Maricopa County to provide design services for the design and construction of a new, 170,000-square foot intake-transfer-release (ITR) building and a 247,000-square foot housing facility for 1,280 inmates. The buildings are separate but connected by a corridor. The project is intended to replace aging facilities on the county’s Durango Campus.

Arrington Watkins chose Fisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) to provide code consulting, fire protection engineering, and life safety design services for the project as part of the design team.  As part of our services, FEI worked with the design team to optimize the smoke barrier location so as to minimize mechanical smoke exhaust systems. FEI also performed a detailed egress analysis to ensure proper paths of egress were provided for all occupants, whether restrained or not.

Churchill County Detention Center, Fallon, Nevada

Churchill County Detention CenterFisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) was asked by Arrington Watkins Architects to provide code consulting, fire protection and fire alarm design, and construction administration services for a new, $17 million detention center in Fallon, Nevada.

The Churchill County Law Enforcement and Detention Center will replace a 43-year-old jail constructed in 1973, which has an official bed capacity of just 53, which limits the county’s ability to segregate inmates. The new, 39,000-square foot facility has six different housing pods and more than doubles the number of available beds to 120.

This state-of-the-art facility includes medical cells, a booking and intake area, laundry services, and visitation spaces. It will also house a 911/dispatch center, administrative space, and a public entry and reception desk. Inmates’ movement in the facility is restricted; therefore, the building’s occupancy is classified as an I-3, Condition 5 based on the 2012 International Building Code® (IBC). This occupancy type requires an automatic fire sprinkler system, a fire alarm and smoke detection system, and an engineered smoke control system for each smoke compartment that is considered windowless as defined by the IBC.

America, LLC is a leading manufacturer and distributor of packaging inks, adhesives, organic pigments, specialty chemicals and polymers for  in North America. In 2010, Toyo Ink elected to expand and renovate its existing, 55,000-square-foot, one-story warehouse manufacturing facility.
